“Komik Strip” Workshop
Faculty of Art and Design, Trisakti University held a Comic Strip Workshop event which was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 through an online method. The event was opened by Susy Irma Adisurya, S.Sn, M.Ds as the chairman of the event followed by remarks from Dr. Sangayu Ketut Laksemi Nilotama., M.Ds as the Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, Trisakti University.
As a resource person, Iskandar Salim, S.Sn (Komikus @Komikfactap who is also Visual Communication Design Alumni 1993) in his presentation said that comic strips are a series of images arranged in interrelated panels to display a short story, assisted by text in word balloons and descriptions, and sometimes the story is made to be continued. In the modern era, comic strips are often found in newspapers or magazines. Along with the era of internet technology, comic strips are present as web comics/digital on social media platforms.
Kak Iskandar said why he chose a comic strip, namely:
• Fast production, compared to long comics.
•  It is also read quickly, especially in the massive information age.
•  Suitable for popular social media platforms.
• Entertain, arouse the reader.
•  Convey the opinion of the comic artist or the public.
• Visual media are more effective than text articles.
The event continued with a comic strip making workshop by the participants who attended via zoom. The participants made 3 columns of comic strips from the initial drawings made by the resource persons. Within 30 minutes, the participants were able to produce interesting comic strips with their own stories.
This workshop event is a part of the FSRD Usakti Comic Strip competition which at the end of October the series of competitions will be closed with a comic seminar & announcement of the winners of the competition. Hopefully this event can arouse the interest of young people to be able to work, especially through comics and can make the almamater and the Indonesian nation proud.
